This webinar discusses how neurodiversity challenges the traditional view of autism and promotes the acceptance and appreciation of neurodivergent individuals. During this presentation, we examine diagnostic criteria of autism and neurodiversity, illustrating how autism manifests across diverse contexts and in various individuals. The session also introduces notable individuals with autism, expanding your understanding of the autistic experience. By the end of the webinar, participants will acquire a comprehensive understanding of essential terminology related to autism, empowering them to foster neuro-affirming and inclusive environments.


Objectives

Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the autism diagnosis and who it affects. 
  2. Identify definitions, terminology, and language associated with autism spectrum disorder.
  3. Understand autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnostic criteria.
  4. Identify characteristics, strengths, and challenges for those with ASD.
  5. Identify the presentation of symptoms across settings.
  6. Identify ways to support people with autism
  7. Define neurodiversity and understand the neuro-affirming lens.

About the presenter

Jade Marth has worked with the autistic student population for four years and has worked with children through adults with autism in various clinical and educational settings. Jade has a Master of Education in Higher Education Administration and Policy Leadership as well as a Bachelor of Science in Behavior Analysis.
