The course "Why is a Good Resume Important for Job Search" will explore the significance of having a well-crafted resume when conducting a job search. It will delve into the reasons why a good resume can make a significant impact on the success of securing a job interview and ultimately landing a job. 

The webinar will cover the importance of tailoring a resume to specific job requirements, highlighting key skills and achievements, and presenting information in a clear and concise manner. It will also emphasize the role of a resume in showcasing one's professional brand and standing out from the competition. 


Objectives

Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to: 

  1. Understand the purpose of a resume. 
  2. Understand resume formatting and design. 
  3. Recognize the role of a resume in the job interview process. 

About the presenter:

Prior to his military career, LTC (RET) John R. Lewis worked in various social, human service and criminal justice positions. Over the course of six years, his work with youth involved Communities in Schools, Woodrow Wilson Middle School, Port Arhtur, TX, and as a Detention Officer. He then worked for the Jefferson County Juvenile Probation Department in Beaumont, Texas. He spent eight years working with adults in the criminal justice system. He worked in both institutional and field parole for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Parole Division. 

His social work includes work with the Texas Department of Human Services working with women with high-risk pregnancies and children with special health care needs through his own agency, JRL Contract Social Services. 

Moreover, he worked as a Home Health Social Worker for various agencies in the Southeast Texas area, focusing on the elderly population of homebound senior citizens. 

At Workforce Solutions of Central Texas, where he was employed as a Workforce Specialist/Career Counselor, his work experience increased his skills and abilities to work with job seekers. He has a powerful desire to assist those who are either underemployed or unemployed, transitioning from one career to another, or entering/reentering the workforce. 

LTC (RET) Lewis holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, and a Master of Science Degree in Human Services from Capella University, Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is a certified Job Skills Trainer, DOL Licensed Workforce Professional and a Licensed Bachelor of Social Work (LBSW). 

His military schools include: the Inspector General’s Course (TIGS), The Inspector General’s Advance Course; Theater Logistics Course; Quartermaster Advanced Course; Combined Arms Exercise Course; Chemical Officer Advance Course, the Chemical Officer Basic, Support Operation Course, Force Management Course. 

LTC (RET) Lewis completed his military career with 35 years of service, including over 26 years of active duty service and his awards include the Legion of Merit Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2nd Award), Army Good Conduct Medal (3rd Award), Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Medal w/M Device, Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon, NATO Medal, Driver Safety Award, Iraq Campaign Medal with 2 Campaign Stars, Humanitarian Service Medal (2nd Award). 

LTC (RET) Lewis is a native Texas originally from Beaumont, Texas and lives in Georgetown, Texas.
