Participants will learn a general overview of service dog information and specifically learn about 8 types of service dogs they may see or encounter in the workplace or in public. Participants will learn about the different pieces of equipment and patches a service dog might wear for identification and to do their job, in addition to information about how different service dogs are trained.
Objectives
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Identify what rights service dogs and their handlers have under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
- Identify 8 different types of service dogs and the jobs they do.
- Understand the level of training that goes into training service dogs as well as learn how to interact with a service dog encountered in private and in public spaces.
About the presenter:
Lauren received her Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling from the University of North Texas and is currently a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) and Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A). Lauren works at UNT WISE as an ENGAGE Program Coordinator, where she works with Neurodivergent UNT students to help them accomplish their goals and learn social, personal, academic, and professional skills. Lauren was born with Muscular Dystrophy and has used a power chair for mobility since the age of 3. She became a service dog handler in 2016 when she was matched with her service dog, Buchanan, from Canine Companions and has been an avid service dog advocate ever since.
