Discover how assistive technology can help people with Intellectual and Developmental Disorders build independence and succeed in education, employment, and everyday life. Through practical examples, participants will learn how to identify functional needs, select person-centered supports, and ensure technology works in real-world settings. The webinar also explores emerging tools such as virtual reality, wearables, and AI.
Objectives
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Explain the difference between AT devices and AT services and describe how low-tech, mainstream, specialized, and emerging technologies may support people with IDD.
- Identify functional barriers across learning, independent living, communication and social participation, and employment, and use a person-task-environment-technology framework to consider appropriate supports.
- Apply a person-centered AT service process that includes assessment, trial, acquisition or customization, training, real-setting implementation, coordination, follow-up, and evaluation of independence, satisfaction, informed choice, privacy, and sustained use.
