Back to Ethics
Ethical decision-making is foundational to effective supported and customized employment services. This webinar examines the ethical responsibilities of employment professionals working with individuals with disabilities, with a focus on navigating complex, real-world situations that arise in service delivery.
Dr. Philip Rumrill explores how professional ethics guide practice even when values conflict, resources are limited, or multiple stakeholder interests are involved. Participants will review core ethical principles such as autonomy, beneficence, nonmaleficence, justice, fidelity, and veracity, and examine how these principles apply across employer engagement, accommodation planning, disclosure decisions, and service coordination.
The session emphasizes accountability to professional codes of ethics, legal requirements, and the rights of individuals with disabilities, while also addressing the practical realities faced by supported and customized employment providers. Through examples grounded in employment services, attendees are encouraged to move beyond rule-following and toward ethical reasoning that supports dignity, informed choice, and competitive integrated employment.
