Career Development in Job Placement Part 2
Career Development Part 2 builds upon job exploration by guiding participants through the remaining steps of the career development process, including job goal refinement and active job search preparation. This section focuses on practical employment skills such as labor market research, networking, resume development, interviewing, disclosure decision making, and workplace accommodations. Participants will learn how to support individuals with disabilities through each stage of job seeking while promoting self advocacy, confidence, and long term employment success. The training emphasizes strategies that support competitive integrated employment and sustainable job placement.
Part 2 Learning Objectives
By the end of Part 2, participants will be able to
- Assist individuals with disabilities in identifying feasible job goals based on interests and labor market information.
- Support the development of job search plans and employment related networks.
- Describe effective strategies for resumes, applications, references, and interviews.
- Explain disability disclosure options and reasonable accommodation principles under the ADA.
- Support individuals in preparing for job start, onboarding, and employment retention.
About the presenter:
Professor Phillip Rumrill grew up in Vermont and attended Keene State College and the Univeristy of Arkansas. He is currently the professor of Counselor Education and Director of Research at HDI (Human Development Institute) at the university of Kentucky. He has dedicated himself in rehabiliation counseling graduate programs for the past 35 years along. He has also invested his time in other endevors researching neurological disabilities, people with multiple sclerosis, traumatic brain injuries, autism implementation of the ADA services and outcomes in his state, veterans with disabilties, and most recently the aspect of aging and disability.
