In 2023 the Office of Housing Services Policy reported more than one in four working‐age adults (27 percent) and nearly one in every two children (49 percent) participated in a safety net program. Needless to say, this statistic conveys the message that either a person(s) you know or you will be the recipient of some type of social service(s). Although public assistance is designed to support people during a time of need, many will not know how to seek out services or refuse to accept help due to disparaging beliefs. This webinar discusses the most popular types of social assistance, how to access the resources connected to the help, and addresses the stigma surrounding accepting aid.
Objectives
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:
- Define social services and how it relates to an individual(s) in need.
- Understand the different types of the most popular social services requested.
- Explore the positive/negative impact associated with obtaining social services.
