Have you been curious about Project-Based Learning (PBL) but unsure how to integrate it into your courses or discipline? This is a one-day opportunity for you to learn from UNT PBL Faculty Mentors and try some hands-on activities.
The Department of Multidisciplinary Innovation (DMI), a division of the College of Applied and Collaborative Studies (CACS), offers four undergraduate degree programs: (1) Applied Arts and Sciences (BAAS), (2) Project Design and Analysis (BS), (3) Applied Project Design and Analysis (BS), and (4) Industrial Distribution (BS). Additionally, we offer two minors - Enology and Brewing and Applied Heritage Management - and manage a PBL-focused dual credit program, North Texas NOW!
DMI students are exposed to project-based learning through industry-partner collaborations and assignments that address real-world problems. This student-centered learning approach facilitates the development of hard and soft (transferable) skills that prepare students for future academic pursuits and careers.
On Friday, May 2, 2025, DMI will host a Project-Based Learning Symposium. This one-day conference will showcase numerous approaches to how PBL Gold Standards can be used in the classroom while allowing participants to workshop their own PBL-based solutions for their own classes and/or curricula.
Plenary sessions will demonstrate how the various academic programs within the department use PBL in different multidisciplinary contexts. Examples include including student voice and choice in a variety of learning environments and producing public-facing presentations in cohort-based programs.
Poster sessions will include several examples of real-world PBL project designs that are used in individual classes, including various humanities courses, as well as STEM fields.
