This course will explore social and communicational deficits exhibited by adults with disabilities by highlighting social behaviors demonstrated and effects on key aspects of the individuals life (i.e., social relationships and employment). The course will go over key indicators of behaviors associated with social isolation and long-term effects of these behaviors. In addition, the course will include best practices and programs that will enhance social communication, resulting in positive and generalizable outcomes for adults with disabilities. 


Objectives

Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to: 

  1. Understand the core deficits related to social communication for adults with disabilities. 
  2. Be able to support adults with disabilities who exhibit behaviors associated with social isolation. 
  3. Understand and deliver best practices for adults with disabilities relating to social communication and associated skills. 

About the presenter:

Farwa Kelly is a graduate research assistant for the UNT ELEVAR program. Farwa is currently working her PhD in Special Education at the University of North Texas and has a Maters degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from the University of North Texas. Within the ELEVAR program, Farwa provides supports to students regarding social skills and behaviors and is a PEERs certified provider. In the past, Farwa has worked as a behavior technician at the Kristin Farmer Autism Center and is currently finishing her supervision hours to become a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA).
