It is important to understand the historical and philosophical context of Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE) to fully acknowledge and embrace current best practices in CIE for people with intellectual or developmental disabilities (IDD). This webinar will focus on defining CIE and why CIE is important for people with IDD.


Objectives

Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the elements of Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE) and the societal significance of CIE.
  2. Learn key legislation and advocacy efforts that led to CIE.
  3. Introduction to CIE outcomes and best practices.

About the presenter

Britni (Brit) Miles has 13+ years of experience in the field of employment supports for people with disabilities as a Program Architect, Contracted Corporate Consultant, Program Manager, and Direct Support Professional placing and coaching individuals in community jobs out of facility-based environments. Brit facilitates training in best practices of Competitive, Integrated, Employment for Community Rehabilitation Providers, state agencies, and other stakeholders. Brit is a Certified Employment Support Professional (CESP) and the Texas Association of People Supporting Employment First (APSE) Founding Chapter President.
